Dehra Dun’s Forest Research Institute (FRI) began as a modest forest school in 1878. FRI was established in 1906. At first, it was known as the Imperial Forest Research Institute. Later renamed Forest Research Institute and Colleges, the organization now consists of a number of centers spread out across the nation to conduct research and provide training for Forest Rangers and Officers of the Forest.
